What the Coroner Found
The day after Hayden Panettiere passed away, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office released its first public statement about its findings during the afternoon on August 17, 2026. After performing an autopsy, the department provided Page Six with an update on its preliminary results. It began with information about the efforts to save the beloved actor’s life.
“On August 16, 2026, at approximately 1:51 PM, a 911 call was received regarding a reported cardiac arrest. First responders and Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and located a female in cardiac arrest. EMS personnel initiated advanced cardiac life support measures; however, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the individual was pronounced deceased at 2:32 PM.”
The statement continued, “The decedent has been identified as Hayden [Lesley] Panettiere, 36, of California. Panettiere was found unresponsive inside the residence, where she had been temporarily staying.” At that point, the local coroner’s office revealed a significant update for the first time: following the autopsy, no signs of trauma had been discovered.
“An autopsy was completed today. At autopsy, no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death.”
The statement ended with the officials confirming that the investigation into Panettiere’s death is ongoing, and they didn’t have any more information to share at that point. “This investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are available for release at this time.”
The actor’s father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed her passing in a heartbreaking statement that was released on August 16, 2026. “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”
