Why We Love This Deal
Shoes have changed since we were kids, but the retro and Y2K-era looks have come back in a big way—we're seeing brands like Nike, Asics, and Saucony pull styles out of their 2000s, '90s, and '80s archives. Shockingly, if you check the racks at Walmart these days, you'll also get a millennium price for a pair of sneakers made by a familiar sports brand you likely wore years ago.
The Avia 5000 Running Sneakers are now just $24 in 25 different colorways, though some are already selling out. This is a bestselling shoe at Walmart, and with this Walmart Rollback offer (you save just a few dollars off the MSRP, but every dollar counts), you can expect new colorways to sell out at any moment. The shoe has a 4.5-star rating after more than 12,000 ratings.

What Shoppers Should Know
- Sizes Available: From 8 to 13
- Color Options: 25
- Best Use Case: This is an everyday shoe, just the way you remember it.
If you’re a fellow millennial, you may have very early memories of Avia. If you're a Gen X-er, maybe even more. But this brand was largely replaced by the likes of Nike and Reebok in the cultural zeitgeist by the time the ‘90s rolled around. That being said, you’ll absolutely remember this style of shoe.
Now referred to as “running sneakers,” you would almost certainly have referred to something like the Avia 5000 as a “tennis shoe” back around the turn of the millennium. The nostalgic cut of the shoe has a toe guard, chonky midsole, and heel loop. It's a style we used to (somewhat eerily) refer to as a “dad shoe,” but over the past few years, styles just like these have made a full comeback.
This sort of shoe is perfect for everyday errands, short jogs, long walks, and daily chores. In other words, it’s an everyday shoe for everyday things, no specialization required.

What Shoppers Are Saying
One shopper pointed out that “this shoe has better materials than the usual Avia shoes at Walmart.” They highlighted the shoe’s extra foam padding around the sock liner and quality sole as points that made this shoe worth more than its sticker price suggests.
To that end, you’ll also find people who say they returned higher-end shoes for the classic Avia. Or, having worn everything, they actually prefer this classic fit. “These are excellent quality shoes comparable, or maybe even better than, many other Nike, Asics, Brooks, or Hoka shoes that cost well over $100. Don’t let the low price make you think they are low quality.”
The Avia 5000 Running Sneakers are down to $24 right now.
