Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was arrested Thursday night in Wisconsin on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.
Romo, 46, was stopped while traveling southbound on Interstate 43 across Milwaukee's high-rise bridge on the evening of July 23, authorities said.
According to an arrest detention report obtained by FOX6 Milwaukee, deputies took Romo into custody after he performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests.
The Charge is Tony Romo's First Offense
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office listed the arrest as a first-offense operating while intoxicated (OWI), Wisconsin's legal term for what is commonly referred to as driving under the influence (DUI).
Romo was booked into custody and later released. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21, according to the sheriff's office.

The former quarterback spent his entire 14-season NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2003. He became the franchise's starting quarterback in 2006 and retired following the 2016 season.
Since leaving the NFL, Romo has become one of football's most recognizable broadcasters, serving as the lead NFL analyst for CBS Sports.
As of Friday, Romo had not publicly addressed the arrest, and it was not immediately clear whether he retained an attorney to comment on the matter.
