Elena Katherine Moore's Friend Says Something Seemed Different the Last Time She Saw Her

Sondra Campbell, a friend of Moore's, told Fox News Digital that something seemed "different" the last time she saw Moore.

"She was scared for her life. She actually said those words to me," Campbell said. "Elena is one of my best friends. I've known her over probably 10 years now. We're really close like tell each other everything. She's been that person for me for a long time."

Moore didn't clarify what she meant because she wanted to discuss it in private, Fox News Digital reported. "I can't talk to you right now. There's too many people around. She's like, but we've got to talk one-on-one," Moore told her, according to Campbell.

The two played phone tag after that, so Campbell never learned what Moore met, Fox News reported.

Elena Moore's Husband, Brannon Slice, is 'Not a Person of Interest,' Reports Say

Fox News Digital also reported that Moore confided she had marital difficulties before her death; in a Facebook message, Moore allegedly "said she wanted to move out and leave Brannon Slice, who is now her husband," Fox reported.

To be clear, no suspect has been identified in the case. It's not even clear yet how Moore died.

In fact, Lexington Police Department Inspector Missy Silcox told Newsweek that Slice "is not a person of interest at the current moment."

Officers and fire personnel "began an extensive search of the wooded areas on Old Cherokee Road at 1:30 p.m. today, on June 17th," the chief wrote.

"At approximately 2:48 p.m. an unidentified body was found within the area. The clothing description matched that of Ms. Moore.  The Lexington Police Department has requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to proceed with this death investigation."

Moore was first reported missing on June 12. After that point, police began combing through video evidence. "Recently obtained camera footage shows Ms. Moore walking through the Publix parking lot, at 100 Old Cherokee Road, on Thursday, June 11th, 2026," police wrote before she was found. "Camera footage captures her walking in the direction of Old Cherokee Road at 9:17 p.m. She was wearing the same olive-green zip-up hoodie with black athletic pants as reported from Planet Fitness."

Police Have Not Released a Cause of Death for Elena Moore

How did Moore die? The police news release did not specify a cause of death for Moore.

In their initial press release, Lexington police wrote, "Ms. Moore frequently visits Planet Fitness at 560 Whiteford Way.  Further investigation revealed that she had signed in at that location on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at approximately 6:40 p.m.  No further contact with the missing woman has been reported."

Moore "was last seen walking away from Planet Fitness toward the wooded area behind Lowe’s Home Improvement Store.  She was wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie with black athletic pants. Officers deployed and circulated a drone in that region with negative results," reported police.
