American Airlines experienced yet another incident after taking off from Los Angeles, and this time, several passengers fell ill.
The incident went down on Tuesday as Flight 274 departed from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City. The plane took off just before 5 p.m.
Fumes Cause Passengers to Fall Ill
But not long after takeoff, the plane was reportedly forced to turn around due to "reports of an odor in the cabin" and made an emergency landing.
ABC7 reported that seven passengers fell ill due to the fumes in the aircraft.
It's also reported that the odor was so intense, pilots in the cockpit were forced to wear oxygen masks as the plane headed back to LAX. After landing safely, the seven passengers were evaluated, though none needed medical attention.
"We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience," an American Airlines spokesman said.
The plane took off several hours later.

On the Heels of Another American Airlines Incident
The incident comes just weeks after an American Airlines jet carrying 94 passengers and seven crew members and bound for Boston had to abort takeoff at LAX after a cargo flight entered the same runway without authorization.
AeroLogic Flight 619 crossed in front of American Airlines Flight 2453 while trying to taxi to its gate when it crossed in front of AA's passenger jet, which had clearance from air traffic control.
ABC News reports that the American Airlines jet was traveling at a speed of around 154 MPH and was nearly airborne when the pilots were instructed to abort takeoff. The planes were 1 mile apart at their closest points, the Federal Aviation Administration concluded.
