The U.S. Department of State has issued a few Level 2 travel advisories for this summer.

Travel advisories range from Level 1 (exercise normal precautions) to Level 4 (do not travel). The U.S. government weighs a ton of risks, such as crime, civil unrest, natural disasters and political conflicts, when determining if a foreign country should receive a travel warning.

On June 12, the Department of State issued a Level 2 travel advisory for the Dominican Republic. That means U.S. citizens traveling there should exercise increased caution.

"Violent crime is a concern in the Dominican Republic despite more police presence in areas often visited by tourists. Do not display wealth and be wary of meeting individuals from online in secluded locations," the Department of State said. "If you decide to travel to the Dominican Republic, note that violent crime is a concern throughout the country affecting all residents regardless of nationality."

Four days later, the Department of State determined that a Level 2 advisory should also be placed on India and Mozambique.

Crime and terrorism are the main concerns in India, according to the Department of State. While those issues are also lingering in Mozambique, there are a few more problems in play there.

"Unplanned protests remain possible throughout the country and can quickly become violent. Protests may temporarily block major roads, including toll booths and border crossings. Violent crime, such as mugging, is common. Mozambique’s health infrastructure is weak, medicine availability is variable and often in short supply. Local medical facilities may lack basic resources and supplies, and may require cash payment up front. There is risk of terrorist violence, including terrorist attacks and other activity in Mozambique," the Department of State's travel advisory for Mozambique

Since these are all Level 2 advisories, they'll be reviewed every 12 months.
