The Washington Capitals suffered a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes on April 2, but that lone goal was something to celebrate.
Alex Ovechkin moved one step closer to breaking Wayne Gretyzky's NHL record by scorign his 892nd career goal. He now sits just two goals away from tying the all-time record and just three shy of passing Gretzky's seemingly insurmountable record.
While he came one step closer, Ovechkin wasn't exactly pleased with being stopped on a point-blank shot by Carolina goalie Frederik Andersen early in the second period with the Capitals trailing 3-0.
“We have a pretty good chance in the second, first shift a breakaway,” Ovechkin said. “And in this game, if you have a chance, you have to use it and I think all goalies play well tonight.”
Commissioner Gary Bettman, Capitals owner Ted Leonsis and Ovechkin’s wife, Nastya, were all watching the game together in a suite and celebrated his 39th goal of the season.

Fans rushed to the comments section to talk about Oveckin's wife - and the lack of enthusiasm from Bettman.
"I love how excited Mrs. Ovi was though. That’s awesome," one person said.
"Only celebrating cuz he knows the revenue this will generate," joked another about Bettman.
"The second she looked away his face got so sour," offered another.
"What an awkward celebration..." said another.
The future Hall of Famer is on pace to break Gretzyk's record before the playoffs kick off.
