Kieran Culkin is a household name in the entertainment industry, and not just based on his role opposite Jesse Eisenberg in A Real Pain, for which he's nominated at the Oscars. As a child, Culkin played characters in big-time films like Home Alone and Father of the Bride, often alongside two of his siblings—Macaulay and Rory. While his early life seems like all fun and games, it's well-documented that Culkin had a fairly tumultuous and very public childhood. His parents separated in 1995, which ultimately ended in the Succession actor not speaking to his father for 17 years after the fact.

While Culkin had a rough go at life from an early age, he seems to have turned things around. In 2012, he met his wife Jazz Charton, and the two aren't looking back.

Below, we get into everything there is to know about Charton, including her background, the couple's meet-cute, and the duo's adorable family.

Kieran Culkin and Jazz Charton's Relationship Timeline

When you think of how celebrities meet, you probably imagine luxe parties, yacht trips to private islands, and being on film sets. But Culkin and Charton's charming first encounter proves that you could meet the (famous) love of your life at a random bar in the city. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Culkin relays that they first met in a bar in New York in 2012.

“I said, ‘I’m Kieran. You have an English accent. What’s your name?’” he said. “She said, ‘Jazz.’ I said, ‘J-A-Z-Z, like the music?’ And she said, ‘Yeah.’ And I said, ‘Well, that’s f---ing stupid.’”

That comment warranted a chuckle. They started dating shortly after the run-in in New York and got married less than a year later on a spur-of-the-moment trip in Iowa. Charton recalled the memory in a 2017 Instagram post

“7 years ago we went on what was supposed to be a 6-week road trip but ended up taking 3 1/2 months,” she wrote in the caption accompanying an old wedding photo. “7 years ago, we fell in love with Iowa. 7 years ago, we met a girl named Kinsey who helped us get our marriage license, and 7 years ago today, we said I do in the rain with 3 strangers. Whose genius idea was it to have Father’s Day right before our anniversary? One gift counts for both, right?”

The couple lived in childfree bliss in Culkin's one-bedroom apartment in the East Village for nearly six years. For most of their marriage, Culkin was pretty open about not feeling the need to have kids, telling iNews in 2018: “It just seems like a lot to take on. I suppose if she gets pregnant, that would be fine, but it’s really not on our horizon... Not one of us [siblings] have started our own family. My mother is one of 11 kids, and she had seven kids, and she has no grandchildren, so think about that?”

A year later, the Culkins welcomed their first child, Kinsey, and two years after that, they welcomed their second child, Wilder, into the mix.

“My favourite surprise so far," Charton wrote in an Instagram post. "We had no idea how much we wanted this until it happened. We’re excited/terrified/ecstatic/unprepared, but we cannot wait to meet our little unexpected creation in September.”

As of late, it seems Culkin is even more in love with his life than ever. Although he was admittedly unsure of having kids at first, in a 2023 interview with Interview, he talked about finding the balance of parenting and a career.

“One thing that was really key for us was, in the first six, seven, or eight months of us being parents, it was just this haze of, ‘What the f--k are we doing?’” he joked. “And then we started going to this playground, and that helped us meet a lot of really good parents. Then it really stands out when you see a shit parent. It’s like, ‘Oh, you took some effort here to really not be around your kids or give a shit.’”

So yeah, Culkin gives a, well, you know what.
