Disney World Visitors Conflicted About Change to 2 Popular Rides

Disney World recently announced a change to the queuing system for two popular rides. But the change comes with pros and cons, and not all fans are on board.

Starting on Feb. 25, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in the Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Epcot will forego the virtual queue system for the first time since either attraction opened, in favor of the traditional standby line, the Disney insider blog All Ears reported last week.

Disney will typically implement a virtual queue for new rides (Tiana's Bayou Adventure opened in late 2024 while Guardians opened in May 2022), however, getting in means getting up at 7 a.m. to secure a spot, or waiting until 1 p.m. when the afternoon queue opens. But even after snagging a virtual spot, guests must still wait for their boarding group to be called. Alternately, visitors can opt to pay extra for Lightning Lane passes, which offers a shorter wait time on select rides.

While eliminating virtual queues offers increased flexibility—as well as the ability to get right back in line to ride the attractions multiple times in one day—it also risks longer standby lines. After the news initially broke, while some fans applauded the new system, others weren't so sure this was the best move, particularly when it comes to the massively popular Cosmic Rewind.

"Am I the only person dreading this on Cosmic Rewind?" asked one fan on social media. "Lines will be astronomical, only person benefiting from this is the person who wants to ride [over three] times. Virtual queue was a free skip the line."

"Ugh that sucks!! Guardians is going to be a seven hour line always," lamented another user, while a third chimed in, "Let’s see how many hours the line gets for Guardians now."

At least a few people were excited to see the virtual queues go, with one person in favor writing: "This should’ve happened from the start. I’m not paying $400 to enter a park if I can’t even get an option to wait in line for all rides."

In either case, for better or worse, the change means that for now, there are currently no virtual queues operating at Disney World. However, that will likely change again with the addition of highly-anticipated upcoming new attractions such as a Cars-themed area in Frontierland and a Monsters, Inc.-themed land in the works for Hollywood Studios.
