After Dave Portnoy shockingly announced “I have cancer” during The Dozen Trivia on Wednesday night, the 47-year-old Barstool sports founder clarified his remarks on the latest episode of his BFFs podcast, released later the same day.
Portnoy casually announced his alarming diagnosis as he was being introduced to the panel on The Dozen, indicating a large bandage on the right side of his neck. “I have cancer, by the way. No big deal,” he said.

Portnoy told the panel that he’d been diagnosed with skin cancer, but the game was on before he could give any details.
Later, Portnoy took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify his stunning announcement. “I did have cancer. I beat it. It wasn’t the serious kind, thank god,” he wrote.

On the new episode of BFFs, entitled “Dave Portnoy Doesn’t Want to Talk About Beating Cancer,” he assured his co-hosts that he has indeed beaten the illness and that the ordeal was “not scary” in the least. Portnoy revealed that he had developed a mole from lounging too long in the sun without sunscreen.
“I add it to my list,” he said of the cancer diagnosis. “I’ve had a heart attack, cancer, stung by bees and beat it all. I mean, it’s tough to complain. I lay in the sun,” Portnoy jested.
“I’m starting to get on top of myself, so I went to a doctor. They did a skin thing, they scrape it, and one [mole] came back as cancerous,” Portnoy explained. “So they gotta take it out. It’s like 10 or 12 stitches in there,” he marveled to his stunned co-hosts as he showed them the wound. “There’s stitches underneath, stitches on [top]. They cut it the f--k out.”
But Portnoy isn’t registering any grievances with his doctors. “Listen, you don’t hear me complaining about it,” he said of the surgical wound and accompanying pain.
