Dennis Locorriere, the frontman of the rock band Dr. Hook, which had a string of hits in the 1970s and early 1980s, died on Saturday. He was 76.
In the process of announcing his passing, Locorriere's family also confirmed his cause of death.
Kidney battle claims Locorriere
Locorriere, who was living in England at the time of his death, passed away from kidney disease, his management team said in a statement.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Locorriere, who, after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on May 16, 2026,” the statement reads.
“Dennis faced his illness with remarkable strength, dignity, and resilience throughout, and remained deeply cherished by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his warmth, love, and the lasting impact he had on those around him."
Remembering Dennis Locorriere
Locorriere, who was born June 13, 1949 in Union City, N.J., was one of the founding members of Dr. Hook, along with George Cummings, Billy Francis and Ray Sawyer.
The band, originally called Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, scored six Billboard top 10 hits in the United States and reached No. 1 on the charts in several foreign countries.
Dr. Hook is best known for hits such as "Sylvia's Mother" (1972), "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone'" (1973), "Sharing the Night Together" (1978), "When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman" (1979), Sexy Eyes" (1980) and "Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk" (1982).
"We're so sad to hear of the death of Dennis Locorriere - the legendary voice at the heart of Dr Hook," said the Boom Radio UK X/Twitter account. "He was a remarkable performer and we shall miss him. Dennis was born in New Jersey and made his home here in the UK for the last 24 years."
"Rolling Stone was a great and clever song. I hope he made a lot of money on it," another social media commenter added.
"Awe he had a fantastic voice," a third person wrote.
"That’s sad - saw them in the 70s great band & Dennis was a lovely singer," said another fan.
