In the 1990s, unlike the thousands of apps that give us endless choice today, flipping through television channels was a genuine experience. If you're old enough to recall, your options were limited, and more often than not, that journey would stop on The Weather Channel.

Landing on The Weather Channel meant instantly being drawn in by the pixelated color graphics, which displayed high temperatures to the tune of smooth jazz. Tapping into this desire for nostalgia, The Weather Channel is now launching RetroCast Now.

The Weather Channel Rewinds Time

The Weather Channel's debut of the throwback newscast necessitated a confirmation on X (formerly Twitter) that it wasn't an April Fools' joke, as the holiday had recently occurred.

“No this is not a joke…Retro Weather Channel is officially back!,” they wrote. “Head to http://weather.com/retro enjoy RetroCast Now for your forecasts in the way you know and love.”

Millennials Rejoice Over RetroCast on Social Media

The release of "RetroCast Now" immediately sparked a wave of support from millennials, who collectively embraced the nostalgic offering. Below are the top reactions to the announcement.

“That scream you just heard was millions of millennial hearts reawakening to sounds we haven’t heard but missed.”

“Never take this away. Expand it. Add all the music of the original Weather on the 8s. Make it so that one can listen and watch nonstop. I'll pay whatever you want.”

“Make sure to have the great music playlists like you used to. I would keep my tv on the weather channel all day if you went back to this.”

“Whoever came up with this deserves a raise. I absolutely love the retro!!”

The Weather Channel Pauses RetroCast for iOS

The Weather Channel announced on Instagram that it is updating its RetroCast feature to enhance the user experience.

“We want to begin by expressing our heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming love and support you’ve all shown for the new Retro Features,” the statement reads. “Every element was crafted with genuine care and a mission: to recreate the magic that made TWC [The Weather Channel] feel like home.”

The statement continues: “That said, we’ve made the decision to temporarily pull the Retro Feature from iOS. We’ve heard your feedback loud and clear, and we’re taking it straight back to our team. We’re working on expanding the music library and building Android compatibility so everyone can enjoy this experience.”

“In the meantime, we hope you’ll continue to enjoy RetroCast Now, which remains live and available at weather.com.”The timing of RetroCast is ideal, given the recent surge of dangerous weather that swept across the country this past weekend.
