The teenage hosts of the podcast MD Foodie Boyz revealed to People how they really feel about being made a target on Saturday Night Live.
MD Food Boyz Hosts Respond to SNL Parody
MD Food Boyz is a food-review podcast with a few teenage twists (number one on the list: a fervent dislike of any and all veggies). The show was co-created by Maryland pals Emmett, Jackson, Peyton, and Ryan. “We thought we were just gonna film one podcast,” Ryan, 15, explained. “We didn't really know if we were even gonna clip it and post it on Instagram and TikTok. But then once we clipped our first one during December break, and we posted our first little clip, then that went viral right away, and then it just went up from there.”
The podcast has reached far more people than any of its creators anticipated. In October, SNL seemingly parodied the show in a sketch entitled “Snack Homiez.” The sketch featured cast members Chloe Fineman, Jane Wickline, and Veronika Slowikowska alongside that week’s host and musical guest, Sabrina Carpenter, enacting a slightly amped-up (though not very) version of an MD Snack Boyz episode. It was a twist that left the MD Snack Boyz crew “shocked.”
“I was really surprised that they had Sabrina Carpenter, that's huge," Ryan enthused. "It was crazy, her impersonating stuff that we made. It was really weird, all of them. SNL impersonating us, it feels really weird because it's such a big brand.”
“It was pretty funny, too, how they impersonated us,” Jackson, 14, added.
SNL Only the First Step of MD Food Boyz's Career Plans
The Snack Boyz were further astonished when SNL revived the bit for January’s Finn Wolfhard-hosted episode, on which Carpenter returned to reprise her “Snack Homiez” role. “It was even weirder because they brought back characters. It must've been pretty successful on their end for their viewers because for them to bring it back, it feels crazy," Ryan said. "I mean, I can't really describe it. It's really exciting because you're back on SNL, which means you did something right."
Peyton, 14, felt that it was “crazy getting on once," and "even crazier" that the bit was reprised. "I never thought I would be doing this in my life," he marveled.
But SNL is only the first step of MD Snack Boyz’s planned world domination. Already, the channel’s success has allowed them to "do stuff that not a lot of kids are getting to do.” “You guys haven't seen it yet, but we have a lot of stuff going on. It's bigger than just food," Ryan promised. "Food reviews are what we got, and I think we are gonna keep that, but I think we're bigger than that. Bigger and we have more stuff to talk about."
