Everyone with kids knows that traveling with them can sometimes be a bit of a challenge.
However, the Transportation Security Administration is testing a new change that could make that process easier.
Although the new initiative was announced on July 18, tests of it are now rolling out at select airports, including Orlando's. The highlight of the initiative? "Dedicated family lanes at select airports nationwide," says TSA.
The Orlando & Charlotte International Airports Have Started Testing the New Family Initiative
On Aug. 1, TSA Southeast wrote on X, "New @TSA 'Families on the Fly' lanes ease travel for parents at MCO, other airports. Assistant Federal Security Director at MCO Michael Silata, says the airport was the ideal location to launch the program."
Orlando International Airport wrote on Aug. 4, "We're excited to share that “Families on the Fly” is at MCO! This @TSA initiative is designed to make security screening easier & more enjoyable for families traveling with children under 12 years old."

The Charlotte, NC airport has also started testing the new lanes.
In addition, according to an Aug. 1 press release, TSA is offering a $15 precheck discount for families.
"For a limited time, enroll in TSA PreCheck and get $15 off the second enrollment when two people sign up together through authorized enrollment provider, IDEMIA," a news release says.
Travelers Are Enjoying the New Perk
TSA shared a July 31 article by Fox 35 Orlando, which revealed, "Orlando International Airport has introduced new TSA security lanes specifically for families with young children, called 'Families on the Fly.'"

TSA is now "offering dedicated security lanes for travelers with children aged 12 and under," the article says.
Travelers told Fox 35 that they appreciate the family lanes.
"It's extremely stressful. There's a lot of stuff, like all the iPads and all the teddies and all that kind of stuff," said Adam Luper, a visitor from the UK, to the station. "It's very exhausting. Especially when [the child] is crying. You have to pick him up. You have to drag the bag. So when the line is shorter, it makes it easier for the parents."
The "Families on the Fly” campaign was described in a news release as "the latest TSA initiative designed to enhance hospitality for families during the airport security screening experience."
Charlotte-Douglas International (CLT) is also testing out the new family lanes. "Planned expansions will be coming to John Wayne Orange County Airport (SNA) and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu," TSA wrote.
“Families on the Fly” will roll out at select airports "including Charleston International Airport (CHS), Jacksonville International (JAX), Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD), Luis Muñoz MarÃn International Airport (SJU), and Tampa International Airport (TPA) with additional airports slated for addition in the coming months," TSA noted in its news release.
