When you think of the most popular brands of butter out there, usually Country Crock and Kerrygold come to mind, with the latter having become more and more popular in recent years.

However, a recent taste test done by Taylor Ann Spencer of Delish picked a different "best overall butter": Kate's.

"I had never tasted Kate’s butter before this, but I will be stocking it in future," she wrote. "This unassuming butter with a beautiful sweet cream flavor and soft creamy texture swept the entire board, stealing the top spot from even the fancier, pricier entries."

Spencer notes that while Kate's isn't "explicitly European-style butter," she found it "just as rich and creamy" as the other ones she tested and "found it more flavorful."

"I’d put this butter on everything from biscuits to toast and use it in anything from chicken piccata to buttercream frosting. It was that delicious," she added.

Spencer had five different categories in total in the test. Here's which butter brands won in the other four.

Best economical butter: Whole Foods 365

Best plant-based butter: Country Crock

Best splurge butter: Horizon Organic

Best European-style butter: Kerrygold

"Kate’s butter and buttermilk feature single source cream from hormone-free, New England cows," the website reads. "Slow-churned with spring-fed water and handled minimally for pure goodness in every batch."

Kate's offers both salted (regular and sea salt) and unsalted butter, as well as buttermilk. A quick search reveals a pack of four sticks (16 ounces) of Kate's sea-salted butter costs $9.99, although prices may vary.
