After a lengthy trial, Sean "Diddy" Combs' case has been handed to the jury.
However, it didn't take long for a potential problem to arise, at least according to the jury foreperson.
Shortly into jury deliberations, Combs' jury sent the judge a note.
According to ABC News, the surprise development came on the afternoon of June 30.
“We are concerned Juror 25 cannot follow your honor’s instructions,” the note said, according to ABC News.
Juries in criminal cases must be unanimous; otherwise, there can't be a conviction. The note certainly raised the prospect that a single juror could hang the case, or at the least was deviating from the wishes of other jurors. There have been Hollywood movies about juror deliberations with a single rogue juror, such as the iconic 12 Angry Men.
There aren't many other details about the note or situation, though, to fully understand what is happening behind closed doors in the Combs' jury deliberations.
According to ABC News, the note came from the foreperson, who asked the judge to "speak with the juror or interview him to prevent confusion." The judge ordered the jury to keep deliberating.
The juror in question is Juror #25.
According to ABC News, Juror #25 "has a Ph.D. in molecular biology and works as a scientist."
Additional details emerged about this juror during jury selection, at which he said he is a Manhattan veterinarian who lives with a partner and was only "vaguely aware" of the accusations against Combs before the trial, ABC reported.
The federal indictment accuses Combs of having engaged in or attempting to engage in sex trafficking, obstructing justice, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, and bribery. A host of witnesses took the stand accusing Combs of criminal behavior, especially as it relates to women. Combs did not take the stand to testify in his own defense, which is his right. His attorneys have acknowledged he engaged in some bad behavior but said it didn't mean the criminal threshold under the law.
