A longtime HGTV host and executive has passed away from cancer.
Loren Ruch, who was head of content at HGTV as well as co-host of the 2021 series “HGTV House Party," died June 12 of myeloid leukemia. He was 55.
Ruch began his tenure at HGTV in 2005 and started his stint as an executive in 2008. He was promoted to head of content in January 2023.
Channing Dungey, the chair of Warner Bros. Television Group, confirmed Ruch's passing in a memo sent to employees and obtained by Variety.
“Loren was the rare leader who lifted everyone around him,” Dungey said. “Known for his unwavering dedication, endless kindness, and unshakeable integrity, Loren built not only hit shows but enduring relationships, serving as mentor, advocate and true friend to countless colleagues across the television landscape.
"His impact stretched far beyond the screen. Loren was the connective tissue of every room he entered – the glue that bound teams, departments, and friendships. He possessed the rare gift of making people feel seen, valued, and inspired to do their best work.”

While at HGTV, Ruch worked on shows such as HGTV Dream Home, HGTV Green Home, White House Christmas, Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge, Celebrity IOU and A Very Brady Renovation.
"To know Loren was to love him. He had one of those personalities that people gravitate towards. He was fun loving and one of the most creative people I’ve met," said Help! I Wrecked My House host Jasmine Roth in a social media tribute.
Ruch is survived by his husband, Davis Salas, as well as his mother, father and brother.
Ruch and Salas had recently celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary on June 4, according to a post Salas made on Instagram.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Ruch's family, friends and colleagues during this time.
