The increasing range of food items being made available at concession stands for college and professional sporting events have seen a major shift over the years, both in the creative combinations of food and the general presentation of these unique offerings.
A perfect example of that, among several others, would be last season when the Dodgers served up a deep-fried peanut butter and Nutella sandwich that included a hazelnut spread, bananas, and strawberries dipped in funnel cake batter after being deep-fried.
For the upcoming MLB season the San Francisco Giants haven't gone quite that extreme in terms of ingredients, seemingly favoring creativity over gluttony.

A 98-ounce souvenir bat with free refills ($22.59)

Yes, that's a 98-ounce Giants-branded baseball bat filled to the brim with popcorn, including a sealing cap for convenient transportation purposes, that can be had for $22.59.
Given the relatively steep price, even with free refills, for what appears to be a basic plastic bat with an "SF" sticker affixed to it, the souvenir looks like something that—upon purchasing—might quickly be repurposed for something other than eating popcorn.
Naturally, for an item like this, the fan reaction was off to the races on social media.
"So many people getting bopped in the head," @HHReynolds posted to X.
This is honestly a great point, albeit a pretty funny one to picture.
With fan behavior at stadiums across the board appearing to get a little crazier with each passing year, it's not at all difficult to envision a battle of the bats breaking out in the stands during the fifth inning of some random Giants-Marlins game in July.
It's an observation that was not limited to just a few fans:
can wait to be in the stands fighting for my life watching the pirates get blown out 8-1 only to be smacked in the head with the new 98 OZ popcorn bat pic.twitter.com/5KXTW3O356

Other fans taking in the news, however, sprinted straight towards the beer route:
"Can it be filled with beer?!" one user asked, while another hilariously declared, "Sell me that for $92.59 and fill it with beer and I absolutely buy it."
Not to be outdone, another user teed up a great visual, asking, "Will the team be using these at the plate as well?"
Finally, there were others who simply could not get over the popcorn pricing, stating: "This s--t better double as a flashlight for $23.. good god."
The 98-ounce popcorn bat will also be available this coming season at PNC Park, home to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
