A Washington, D.C. man is facing more than 30 years in prison for a road rage incident that turned violent three years ago.

It started at around 5 p.m. on May 19, 2021 when 45-year-old Kenneth Miles Davis Jr. was seemingly cut off by another while driving. Davis, who was driving a Maserati GranTurismo, got out of his luxury car and fired shots into the woman's car as she drove away, according to security footage obtained by the D.C. U.S. Attorney's Office

On June 17, Davis was sentenced to over 32 years in prison after being convicted by a jury in January of one count of assault with intent to kill while armed, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and four counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.

It could've been a deadly situation. Davis fired 13 rounds in total—six at the woman's car and seven at bystanders. The woman was the only person who was shot, while her five-year-old was hurt by broken glass. She identified him in a police lineup.

Davis' lawyer Marnitta L. King told NBC News that his fate isn't sealed just yet, as he's already informed the court that he will appeal. "Mr. Davis will continue to fight to prove his innocence," she said. It comes after Davis wrote a letter to the judge in May reasserting his innocence and claiming he didn't receive a fair trial.

If you find yourself in a road rage situation, try to deescalate and get away as quickly as possible.
