Law & Order: SVU star Ice-T spoke to People about his character’s shocking fate on the recent season finale. The musician and actor, who’s played Det. Fin Tutuola on 24 of the show’s 25 seasons, was shocked to learn that his character would be ruthlessly gunned down in the episode’s final minutes.
In the episode, Tutuola is confronted by the gun-wielding son of a criminal whom he recently put in jail. As the detective tries to deescalate the situation, he and the boy struggle and the gun accidentally discharges. Tutuola is hit in the arm, and tells the horrified child, who insists it was an accident, to run off before more cops arrive.
Speaking to People, Ice-T revealed that he had more difficulty processing his fate because the crew gave away the ending before he had finished the script.
“I was reading the pages. I didn't know. So I'm here in the script, and everybody's like, ‘You're getting shot!' I'm like, ‘What?’ That could be BAD,” the actor recalled.
But thankfully, “I lived through it,” Ice-T cracked. The actor is excited to be joining Mariska Hargitay and the rest of the cast when SVU’s 26th season begins production next month.
"Everybody's looking forward to a full season," he promised. “We're ready to go. We're high. “Last season I think we caught another stride, another influx of fans. So we're ready to go. I think we could do 30."
Law & Order: SVU, and the rest of the Law & Order franchise, is streaming on Peacock.
